As some of you know, I wrote a book in 2019 called Defamers: How Fake News Terrorized a Community & Those Who Dared to Fight It. It’s almost the four-year anniversary of a book I wrote about the online tabloid Cal Coast News, their false and deceptive reporting practices, and the conspiracy theories they apparently still cling to. Why else would one of their prized sycophants, former Grover Beach mayor Debbie Peterson, continue to review-bomb my book after all this time?

Last month, I received an email from a couple of interested readers who wanted to purchase a copy. They came across some bizarre reviews of my book from Peterson and some anonymous blockhead who sounds an awful lot like a certain disgraced “activist” who is closely associated with Peterson. I honestly don’t care about reviews left by trolls spewing incoherent babble about my “thoughts on COVID-19” or describing me as a “transplant activist” and an “apparent man.” Quite frankly, I’ve grown accustomed to the slings and arrows from my anonymous critics who stumble into inconsequential ramblings as opposed to engaging in a substantive debate on the subject matter. But alas, it’s the Internet. My expectations are understandably low.

But it does bring me pause that Peterson, who apparently refers to herself as a “local government expert”…
